MEMO TOY DRIVE and NEXT MEETING UPDATE

Hi Everyone,

Our Toy Drive is in full swing! The Toy Drive will benefit OUR Children Center of Boulder County and will run until December 17th. All donations can be made outside Dave's office at Armory 1B28. Some of the faculty has asked if we can pick up their toys and if anyone is willing to volunteer with me please let me know!

Our next meeting will be held this Wednesday (12/9) at 5:00pm in Armory 1B01. This will be our holiday event where we will put together holiday bags for the children. Dave will be providing us holiday bags but its is VERY IMPORTANT that everyone bring in 5-10 dollars worth of small gifts, candy, ribbon, etc... to put in the bags. I'll bring in some holiday music and everyone is welcome to bring in food for everyone to share. Lets make this a fun night!

If you have any questions please let Dave (david.martinez@colorado.edu) or myself know! See you all Wednesday!

Post Meeting Notes- 9/16

Hey Everyone,

Great meeting last night! We had well over 40 people attend! Sequence heads Professor Mike McDevitt and Professor Paul Daugherty talked to us about the expectations the reviewers have to get admitted into the SJMC. Bella Mote talked to us about how to apply to get the International Media Certificate. Susan Avila went over the application process to get admitted into the SJMC.

Here are some notes about what was said last night:

- Mr. Daugherty talked about how it is essential to make it clear that you put "that you have a passion for journalism" in your essay

- He said sometimes a story that doesn't get off topic in your essay can be benificial

- He said "sob" stories don't get you anywhere in your essay

- He said to tell how the journalism school can be benificial for you as an individual for your major

- He said to make sure you start your essay with plenty of time before the deadline

- He said to utilize the writing center, friends, and family to edit your essay

- Professor Mike McDevitt talked about the News Editorial Essay

- He said to pick a article for your essay that really moved you as a journalists

- He said it looks good if you have participated in student media such as CU sports mag, CU Independent, and Radio 1190.

- For advertising majors he said to make sure you think outside the box when composing your essay

All applications can be picked up from Joan at the SJMC desk in Amory.

Good Luck!
